Objectives:

  • to learn about modal verbs must, mustn’t, have to, don’t have to and using them in the context correctly;
  • to have practice in pronunciation must and mustn’t;
  • to develop students’ speaking and writing skills;
  • to provide a stable and welcoming atmosphere in the class.

Outcomes: at the end of the lesson, the students will be able to talk about activities

Warm-up:

Slide 2. Greeting.

Slide 3. Introduction. Aim of the lesson.

Pre-activity:

Slide 4. The icons of the lesson.

Slide 5. Modal Verb Charades.

Main activity:

Slide 6-9. Work with Student’s Book. GRAMMAR must, mustn’t, have to, don’t have to Find the examples of must, must not, have to and don’t have to in the club rules on page 54. Match sentences 1-4 to meanings a-c. Use one of the meanings twice. Then find the main verb after must and have to in the box on the right. Is it the infinitive with to or without to? (ex.1, p.55)

Slide 10-12. Work with Student’s Book. Read the climbing club rules again and answer the questions (ex.2, p.55)

Slide 13-15. Work with Student’s Book. Read the dance class rules. Rewrite them using must, mustn’t or don’t have to ( ex.3, p.55)

Slide 16-17. Work with Student’s Book. Last week, there was a swimming competition. Write sentences about what people had/didn’t have to do ( ex.4, p.55)
