Objectives:

• to read an e-mail about the newspapers and the magazines in Britain;
• to answer the questions,
• to complete the table;
• to discuss about the advantages and the disadvantages of a newspaper and a magazine;
• to talk about reading tastes;
• to develop the students’ reading and speaking skills;
• to broaden students’ knowledge about mass media.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson, the students will be able to tell about the newspapers and the magazines in Britain, to say the advantages and the disadvantages of a newspaper and a magazine.

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

Warm-up:

Slide 2. Greeting.

Slide 3. Introduction. Aim of the lesson.

Pre-activity:

Slide 4. The icons of the lesson.

Main activity:

Slide 5. Work with Student’s Book. Read Jack’s e-mail to Olha. He is telling her about mass media in Great Britain. Say what newspapers and magazines are mentioned in Jack’s e-mail. (ex.8, p.44)

Slide 6-7. Read Jack’s e-mail to Olha.

Slide 9. Work with Student’s Book. Work in groups. Answer the questions. (ex.9, p.44)

Slide 10. Work in groups. Answer the questions.
