Objectives:

  • to learn differentiate between the Past Simple and the Past Progressive;
  • to have practice in using time clauses;
  • to develop students’ listening and speaking skills;
  • to provide a stable and welcoming atmosphere in the class.

Outcomes: at the end of the lesson, the students will be able to talk about mysteries

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

Warm-up:

Main activity:

Slide 6-7. Work with Student’s Book. GRAMMAR Past Simple – Past Progressive Time clauses ( when, while) (ex.3, p.35)

Slide 8-9. Work with Student’s Book. GRAMMAR Complete the sentences with the Past Simple or the Past Progressive of the verbs in brackets (ex.3, p.35)

Slide 10-12. Work with Student’s Book. LISTEN A) You will hear a radio programme called Mystery Hour. Before you listen, guess the answers to the questions below. Then listen and check your answers (ex.4, p.35)
