Topic: “A sound mind in a sound body. Sports from A to Z. Why we love sport.”

Objectives:

• to write an e-mail to friend describing a recent sport event;
• to write a paragraph about sportsman or sportswoman;
• to develop the students’ writing skills;
• to provide a stable and welcoming atmosphere in the class.

Outcomes: at the end of the lesson, the students will be able to write an e-mail about a sport event and a paragraph about favourite sportsman.

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

Plan

Warm-up:

Slide 2. Greeting.

Slide 3. Introduction. Aim of the lesson.

Pre-activity:

Slide 4. The icons of the lesson.

Main activity:

Slide 5. Work with Student’s Book. Write an e-mail to your friend describing a recent sport event you watched. Use the questions and the example below. (ex.1, p.107)

Slide 6. Answer the questions.

Slide 7. Write an e-mail to your friend describing a recent sport event you watched.

Slide 8. Read a text about the favourite sportsman.

Slide 9. Interactive task.

Slide 10. Work with Student’s Book. Write a paragraph about your favourite sportsman/woman. (ex.2, p.107)

Practice:

Slide 12. Work in Workbook. Do a survey. Ask your friends about their attitude to sport. Do they think sport is important in their lives? What are their favourite sports? What sports do they do? Prepare your results in the form of a graph. (ex.18, p.56)

Slide 13. Work in Workbook. Write a letter about your favourite sport to a sports magazine. Use your notes to write about your favourite sport. If you don’t train anything, write about a sport you like to watch. Divide your text into three paragraphs. In each paragraph answer some questions, but try to connect the answers so it sounds natural. (ex.19, p.57)
