Objectives:

• to speak about choosing magazine to read;
• to give your own idea of the contents for a school magazine and advertise it;
• to develop students’ creativity and speaking and writing skills;
• to provide a stable and welcoming atmosphere in the class.

Outcomes: at the end of the lesson, the students will be able to speak about mass media

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

 

Plan

Warm-up:

Slide 2. Greeting.

Slide 3. Introduction. Aim of the lesson.

Pre-activity:

Slide 4. The icons of the lesson.

Slide 5. Magazine Icebreaker Interviews.

Main activity:

 Slide 6-8. Work with Student’s Book. Work in groups. Name a newspaper or a magazine which you and your family read regularly (ex.5,p.197)

Slide 9-10. Work with Student’s Book. Discuss why it is often difficult to make a choice which newspaper to buy or to subscribe to. Say what helps you to make this choice ( ex.6, p.197)

 Slide 11-12. Work with Student’s Book. a) Read the advertisement (ex.7,p.197)

Slide 13. Gymnastic for the eyes.

Slide 14. Work with Student’s Book. b) Work in groups. Give your own idea of the contents for a school magazine which may be interesting for pupils of your age. Advertise it as in the example above (ex.7,p.197)

Slide 15-17. Work with Student’s Book. Read one of the news from the school newspaper and write an interview with one of the heroes ( ex.8, p.198)

Practice:

Slide 18-19. Work in Workbook. Complete the sentences with the words below ( ex.10, p.89)

Slide 20-21. Work in Workbook. US papers are very big, especially Sunday editions. They have many sections which deal with different subjects. Using the scheme below write about what sections are interesting to difference people ( ex.11, p.89)
