Topic: Listening to Music. Musical instruments.

Objectives:

  • to read the text about the musical instruments the children play;
  • to learn the rules of usage of the modal verbs;
  • to practise the usage of the modal verbs;
  • to put the different types of the questions to the given sentences;
  • to develop students’ reading and speaking skills;
  • to improve the students’ grammar competence;
  • to broaden students’ outlook.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson, the students will be able to use the modal verbs in speech, to tell about the musical instruments they can play.

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

Warm-up:

Main activity:

Slide 5. Work with Student’s Book. a) Read what children say about the musical instruments they play. Match their stories (1-4) to the photos (A-D). (ex.4, p.106)

Slide 10. Work with Student’s Book. b) Read the statements and say what musical instrument it is. (ex.4, p.106)

Slide 16. Work with Student’s Book. Find the sentences with modal verbs in of Ex.4a on p.106 and explain how they change the meaning of the main verb. Use the notes from the table given above. (ex.5, p.107)
