Objectives:

  • to read about Robert Burns;
  • to answer the questions;
  • to describe the Highlands of Scotland;
  • to read R. Burn’s poem “My Heart’s in the Highlands”;
  • to revise the tenses;
  • to develop students’ reading and speaking skills;
  • to improve students’ grammar skills;
  • to promote positive attitude to studying a language.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson the students will be able to tell about Robert Burns and his literary works, to use tenses in written speech.

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

Warm-up:

Main activity:

Slide 5. Work with Student’s Book. Look at the pictures. Say whom of these English writers you know. Which of their literary works have you read. (ex.1, p.86)
