Objectives:

• to introduce and practise the new vocabulary;
• to read and learn by heart a poem “The Testament” by Taras Shevchenko;
• to talk about the Ukrainian and foreign writers;
• to develop the students’ reading and speaking skills;
• to encourage understanding and tolerance to other people.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson, the students will be able to recite the poem “The Testament” by T. Shevchenko

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Student’s Book, Workbook.

Warm-up:

Slide 2. Greeting.

Slide 3. Introduction. Aim of the lesson.

Pre-activity:

Slide 4. The icons of the lesson.

Main activity:

Slide 5. Vocabulary. Listen and read the words and their translation.

Slide 6. Interactive task 1.

Slide 7. Work with Student’s Book. Listen to a poem by Taras Shevchenko, read it and learn it by heart. You may learn by heart only the part of the poem, which you have chosen. (ex.6, p.144)

Slide 8. Listen to a poem “The Testament” by Taras Shevchenko. Then read it.

Slide 9. Answer the questions.

Slide 10. Interactive task 2.

Slide 11. Translate a poem into Ukrainian. Which variant do like much more?

Slide 12. Work with Students’ Book. Work in pairs. Ask your partners if they know some more poems by T. Shevchenko and can recite them. (ex.7, p.145)
